Birds Nest Soup – a culinary experience improving your health.

Vietnamese - medicinal Foods. Birds Nest Soup. The soup is made from edible bird nests which are called the “Caviar of the East”. Bird's Nest Soup is extremely rare and valuable. The main ingredient is the nest of the swiftlet bird which is usually found in Southeast Asia. Edible bird's nests are among the most expensive animal products consumed by humans.

It is regarded as a delicacy, health booster, life prolonger and aphrodisiac in Asia, particularly in China and Hong Kong, and is said to rejuvenate skin, clear up complexions, clean out the digestive tract, and cure lung cancer.

Due to the high glycoprotein, collagen and amino acid, antioxidants, hormones, and various minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium, birds' nest are treasured for many benefits. It is also used in skincare ointment to maintain youthful skin.

The bird’s nest has a high protein (43-55% more than meat or fish).

The sticky gelatinous noodle-like fibers used to make the nests are secreted by well-developed salivary glands in the bird’s mouth The glands enlarge during the breeding season. The swifts can take up to two months to build a nest.

I am enormously proud to have been invited by the founder of the by Dao Yen Production And Trading Service Co., Ltd., located 5km south of Phu Quoc airport. These guys are a pioneer of the birds nest industry in Phu Quoc and have developed the Phu Quoc Salanganes Nest brand.

Each nest is hand cleaned by a small army with magnifying scopes to remove any feathers, then cleaned with UV lights dried and packaged. A slow process, with individuals only producing 200g per day.

Pictured is a 3m long

x 2m high pallet of birds nest - 300kg worth over 1.5 million dollars.

100g will set you back $250 - $350.

An utterly unique experience that anyone can experience with daily tours and an almost cellar-door feel to the modern showroom and restaurant, where you can enjoy a refreshing bowl of bird’s nest and local herb soup. Cool, and refreshing, and I did feel healthy or stronger after enjoying a bowl.

Set amongst beautiful tropical gardens, worth a look. #vietnamtrip #vietnamstreetfood #holidayvietnam #vietnamtravels
